Test call up for Franklin

Rishton professional James Franklin has been called up to the New Zealand Test squad for the 3rd Test at Trent Bridge. Franklin, who is highly regarded in his home country, comes in with the New Zealanders facing an injury crises on the bowling front. Paceman Shane Bond is returning home with a back injury and spinner Daniel Vettori has a torn hamstring.

 

Left arm paceman Franklin has taken 20 wickets at 17.4 and he has also hit 389 runs at 43.2 with two half centuries and one century for Rishton this season. Franklin is one of four New Zealanders currently playing in the Lancashire League along with Accrington's Tama Canning (506 runs and 31 wickets), Lowerhouse's Peter Fulton (438 runs and 18 wickets) and Colne's Andre Adams (163 runs and 17 wickets in four matches).
