There were no surprises in the Indian squad selected to defend the ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be held in England in June 2009.

The 15-member squad, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was largely made of the success stories, real or potential, of the Indian Premier League, chapter two.

Among the change in personnel, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina, Praveen Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja and Pragyan Ojha make it to the squad, while Ajit Agarkar, Dinesh Karthik, Joginder Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Robin Uthappa and S. Sreesanth have been left out of the team that won the inaugural World Cup in 2007.

Virender Sehwag has been named Dhoni’s deputy this time, a post held by Yuvraj Singh last time around.

The squad: M S Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain), Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh. Yusuf Pathan, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, R P Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Pragyan Ojha, Irfan Pathan.
