Event: | Friends Provident Trophy 2009 |
DateLine: 26th July 2009
Dominic Cork proved to be difference between both the sides as he helped Hampshire restrict Sussex to a below par total of 219 in their stipulated 50 overs and then the batsmen did not break much sweat as they chased down the target with around nine overs to spare.

Cork was at his best, as he claimed four wickets including a match-shaping burst of three for nine in 23 balls in the first hour. Sussex captain Michael Yardy tried to rescue his side from the wreckage of 77 for five with a diligent unbeaten 92 but he did not receive much support from the other batsmen. It was Cork all the way in the first hour as he removed an in-form Ed Joyce in the seventh over of the match. Two balls later he was able to persuade Matt Prior to edge an out-swinger to the keeper before he could trouble the scorers. Chris Nash was tapped leg before by Cork and when Goodwin was run out Sussex were reeling at 43-4. Yardy put his head down to help Sussex past the 200-run mark and he was supported by Hamilton-Brown with whom he put on 60. Dwayne Smith briefly threatened to get the innings going before perishing for 20.
Michael Lumb and Jimmy Adams at the top of the order laid the platform for the run chase. The pair added 93 for the first wicket before Adams was the first to go when he was trapped before his stumps by a Wright delivery. Three overs later Lumb fell to the same bowler and the score read 110 for two in 22 overs. There were further hiccups for Hampshire when Carberry and Ervine fell in quick succession. Chris Benham and Pothas with an unbroken fifth 67 wicket stand clinched the win for Hampshire and with it the Friends Provident TrophyLATEST SCORES
