At stumps on day one, South Africa A are 5-203 in the second four-day match against Australia A at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville. South Africa A won the toss this morning and elected to bat.

 

The pick of the bowlers in the first two sessions was South Australian Joe Mennie with 2-34 off 12 overs, dismissing Dean Elgar (5) and Stephen Cook (53).

 

Mennie continued his fine day in the final session, picking up the wicket of Stiaan Van Zyl (10), then towards the end of the day, Temba Bavuma (20) to add another four wickets to a man-of-the-match performance in the series opener in Brisbane.

 

Queensland’s Mitchell Swepson made a crucial breakthrough with the wicket of Omphile Ramela (82), with New South Wales batsman Kurtis Patterson taking the catch.

 

The Australia A squad, who won the first match of the winter series in Brisbane last week by 197 runs, have made two changes to their side with South Australia's Jake Lehmann replacing Queensland opener Matt Renshaw (concussion) and Victoria quick Scott Boland coming in for SA's Daniel Worrall.

 

Renshaw was ruled out of the match after he hit his head on a beam in the team dugout during a training session earlier in the week and suffered a mild concussion. The injury isn't expected to rule him out of the upcoming one-day matches, where he will play for the National Performance Squad.
