NEW DELHI - In a fine gesture of cricketing brotherhood and human relationship, Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, Manager Talat Ali and Media Manager Dr. Ahsan Malik yesterday called on the bereaved Indian batsman Virender Sehwag to offer condolences on the demise of his father recently.
Soon after the match against Delhi, they took off for Najaf Garh and after braving nearly an hour and a half of evening traffic rush, reached his house. A big contingent of media persons was already waiting for them.
They spent about 15 minutes with Sehwag and inquired about the cause of his fathers death at the relative young age of 54 years. Sehwag said he was diabetic and that proved fatal for him.
Speaking to the media, captain Shoiab Malik said he can imagine how Sehwag was feeling since his own father had died during the Indian teams tour of Pakistan.
Dr. Malik said the team management felt it was the right thing to do to share in Sehwag sorrow and it was a noble gesture. It was also a bid to show that we should rise above everything else in a tragic moment like this.
