| Player: | DL Vettori |
DateLine: 3rd June 2008
The left-arm spinner started playing cricket at a tender age of 18 years and is the youngest cricketer ever to play for New Zealand. Already a decade old in international cricket, he is only the third Kiwi player to achieve the double of 200 wickets and score 2000 runs in Tests, after Sir Richard Hadlee and Chris Cairns.

After the 2007 ODI World Cup, he was handed over the captaincy of the team for the T20 Championships in 2007, and later the tour to South Africa in 2007 was his first full blown challenge away from home. The Chinaman had, before this, often led his team from the front, whenever former captain Stephen Fleming was missing in action.
Daniel Vettori is considered to be one of the most intelligent spin bowlers around. He has mastered great control over variations in flight, speed and length, and thus is very difficult to score against. He has taken 245 wickets in Tests at 34.80 apiece, while taking another 223 in ODIs averaging a healthy 32.80. He is also a more than useful batsman down the order, having two Test centuries to his credit. He performs best against the Australians, taking his first ten wicket haul in a Test match against them at Eden Park in 2000.LATEST SCORES
