Bangladesh fared much better on the first day of the second test match against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, as compared to the previous match. Batting first after winning the toss, the visitors got to 250 all out, and then got an early South African wicket.

Batting first, the Bangladeshis lost an early wicket in the form of the youngster, Imrul Kayes, and then went on to lose three wickets in the span of 17 runs to be struggling at 71/4 at one stage. However, Junaid Siddique then got his act together, and played out 144 deliveries for his half century. Shakib Al Hasan got to a 27-ball 30, while number eight batsman, Mushfiqur Rahim smashed a 65 to prop the Bangladeshis up to 250. This was after the tourists were 194/9 at one stage. Rahim then added 56 runs for the last wicket with Mahbubul Alam, out of which Alam’s contribution was only one.

Makhaya Ntini continued with his good form and scalped four wickets. On the other hand, Morne Morkel did concede many a run, but also ended up with four wickets.

In reply, the South Africans lost Neil McKenzie when he hadn’t even opened his account, as he was caught by debutant, Raqibul Hasan, off the bowling of Mashrafe Mortaza. Skipper Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla, both then saw through the rest of the overs of the day, to end at 20/1 in seven overs.
