DateLine: 13th December 2008
After a damp outfield early on the third day, match started after the post lunch session. Close to two and a half hours of play was lost today. New Zealand starting the day at 226 for 4 lost McCullum to Taylor. Ryder and McCullum were involved in a partnership of 89 runs for the fifth wicket. McCullum contributing only 25. Ryder on the other hand went on to make 89 before he was snared by Powell. It was a very important innings from Ryder. He was the one who held the lower order together and made sure that New Zealand made a significant first innings score. Both Ryder and Flynn even though not getting hundreds made sure that their significant contributions helped New Zealand. Vettori as usual chipped in and the lower order frustrated West Indies to make sure that New Zealand made 365 in their first innings. Gayle won another referral today when Mills was trapped in front by Edwards.Franklin was hit wicket bowled of Edwards With West Indies coming in to bat Gayle was positive and made sure that they did not lose early wickets and finished the day at 39 for no loss still 326 runs behind. With so much play being lost due to bad light, rain and wet outfield it remains to be seen how much whether either team can force a result in the next two days. With the way wicket is behaving and the weather is draw looks the only option.
