From The Times (28 June 1935): "Owing to rain the resumption of the match [on the second day] was delayed by 90 minutes, but as soon as play began it was evident that the pitch had suffered from the weather. The ball reared unexpectedly and the fourth ball, bowled by Crisp, was edged by S. Crump as it lifted sharply. Williams, the wicket-keeper, tried to take the ball, and unsighted Mitchell, who was struck on the forehead. Mitchell was knocked out and took no further part in the game. As the wicket was so dangerous, H. F. Wade [the South African captain] did not bowl Crisp again, and Bell reduced his pace considerably."
