Rain had started to fall on Wednesday 16 February but after the Wanganui team arrived in Masterton on the morning of Friday 18 February it had been hoped that play may be able to start in the afternoon. However that was not possible and torrential rain on the Friday evening and Saturday morning prevented any possibility of play and the game was abandoned.
