Notes
--> Rishton batted on after winning
--> Scrimshaw made his debut in Lancashire League matches
--> Scrimshaw made his last appearance in Lancashire League matches
--> G Finney passed his previous highest score of 33 in Lancashire League matches
--> D Turner passed 500 runs in Lancashire League matches when he reached 1
Tom Lancaster was away on County duties and Scrimshaw from the Manchester ground staff deputised.
There were two J Ingrams playing for Rishton; to differentiate between them, J Ingram senior is referred to above as W Ingram.
TE Noble was dismissed when "the ball dropped his glove into the top of his pads, the batsman picked the ball out and was consequently given out. The decision occasioned some little surprise but the rule on this point is clear:
it says a batsman shall be out 'if he touch with his hands or take up the ball while in play unless at the request of the opposite side'; such an occurrence may not take place once in twenty years and the batsman may be excused his mistake.".
There was an unfortunate incident when "Finney drove a ball in the direction of the scoring tent and Bradshaw rushed off after it. Whether the ball got through the rails I cannot say because I was not in a position to judge. However the Enfield scorer made up his mind that the ball had gone through the rails and for some little time was engaged in shouting 'foul' for all he was worth. The umpires made no sign but the batsmen taking it for granted that it was a boundary proceeded leisurely to their own ends and whilst they were so engaged one of the Rishtonians whipped off the bails and Tattersall was run out and the innings ended.".
