This match was between players from the north of the Canterbury province against players from the south of the province. It was believed that the match had been deferred to March so many players had changed their arrangements meaning that both teams were not as strong as originally selected. In the south team at least 8 players were from South Canterbury with PL Orr and WJ Owen being from Ashburton County but it is not known where J Brown was from. The northern team appear to be mainly from Christchurch so have been referred to as a Canterbury XI in this match.
