This rain-affected return match was drawn. Northumberland had won the game between the two sides at Northampton in the previous week. Rain on the first day meant only two overs were bowled before lunch, and it delayed the start on the second day until noon. For Northamptonshire, Smith top-scored with 53. In the Northamptonshire first innings, East and Smith put on 89 runs for the eighth wicket. It was the highest eighth wicket partnership of the season, and a new record for the competition. For the home team, the top-scorers were Clayton with 62 and Cochrane with 55. In the Northumberland first innings Haslam and Robson added 77 runs also for the eighth wicket. It was the second highest partnership for this wicket during the season, beaten only by East-Smith partnership for Northamptonshire in this match. In the Northamptonshire second innings Walters took 7 wickets for 49 runs.
[Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; 2nd inns fall of wickets for both teams; in Northamptonshire 1st inns boundaries in Smith's 53; in Northumberland 1st inns boundaries in Clayton and Cochrane 50s.]
