This was the first county match played on the new County Ground in Jesmond
This was the inaugural Championship match at the new Northumberland County Ground. The visitors won shortly before 3.30 pm on the second day by 6 wickets, after Northumberland failed by 3 runs to save the follow-on. For the winners, W F Whitwell took 12 wickets in the match for 139 runs, and there were 7 fours in his innings of 50 not out. For the home team, Brutton took 8 for 51 in the Durham first innings, and Mortimer and Elsey put on 53 runs for the ninth wicket in the Northumberland second innings.
