This return match was drawn, with Wiltshire following on 97 runs behind. Rain stopped play when 6 Wiltshire second- innings wickets had fallen, and the game was abandoned at 6.00 pm. W H Brain led Glamorgan, as his brother had to withdraw with influenza. There were several rain interruptions on both days. The encounter between the two sides at Cardiff at the end of July had been won by Glamorgan. For the visitors, Lambert took 12 wickets in the match for 118 runs, including 9 for 86 in the Wiltshire first innings, which was statistically the third best innings bowling performance of the season. R Lowe's innings of 87 runs included 11 fours. In the Glamorgan innings, Hickley and R Lowe added 110 runs for the third wicket. The four stumpings in the match by Brain equalled the feat of the Buckinghamshire players C E Cobb, who achieved it twice in 1896 and once this year, and C D Robinson once in 1895. Glamorgan had needed to win this match to have had any hope of keeping up their challenge for the Championship.
