This return match was drawn with Northamptonshire gaining the lead on first innings. The Northamptonshire declaration set Northumberland a victory target of 248 runs in 2¾ hours. Bad light stopped play early shortly before 6.20 pm. The game at Northampton in June had been won by Northamptonshire. For the visitors, Horton scored 56 with 4 fours and W H Kingston 52 with 5 fours. For the home team Page batted 2¼ hours to score 56 not out with 5 fours. Elsey, who took 8 wickets for 58 runs in the Northamptonshire first innings, was badly injured in the Northumberland first innings when, having been winded by a ball from East, a ball from G J Thompson hit him in the eye. He received medical attention on the ground and was sent to the Newcastle Eye Infirmary where he was detained. He did not play again for the County until their last match of the season. A Lowings acted as substitute fielder in the Northamptonshire second innings and caught W H Kingston.
