Monmouthshire won by 217 runs. It was their only win of the season. For the winners, Silverlock carried his bat in the first innings scoring 112 not out including 1 six, 12 fours, 6 threes and 8 twos. His second innings 88 contained 1 five and 11 fours and was scored in 80 minutes. Rees scored 78 with 10 fours and P C Phillips 78 with 9 fours. Steeples took 10 wickets for 125 runs, including 7 for 83 in the Devon first innings. In the home team's second innings Silverlock and Rees put on 129 for the second wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season, and Rees and P C Phillips 108 for the third wicket before Rees did not come back after lunch with the score at 252 for 2 wickets when it was realised he had a broken finger. The 197 runs conceded by Light in the match was the second highest of the season by a bowler. For Devon, Hingston's innings of 59 contained 5 fours. Early in the Monmouthshire second innings, Hingston took over the wicket-keeping duties from Davies who was suffering with a badly bruised thumb and M Stratton acted as the substitute fielder. In the Devon second innigns, A J Gould was the substitute fielder for Rees. Silverlock's run aggregate of 200 was the second highest in a match during the season. The 197 runs conceded by Light were the second highest in a match during the season. The 5 catches held by Mayes were the most by a wicket-keeper in a match during the season and equalled the Championship record acheived on seven previous occasions.
