After Kingston was second out in the second innings, 17 runs were required for victory, yet five further wickets fell before the winning runs were scored.
The game between the two teams at Northampton in May had also been won by Northamptonshire.
A new wicket was prepared before play began on the first day, as Stoke suffered what newspaper reports called a 'minor earthquake' over Sunday night and the original pitch cut for the match was found to be bumpy.
