Durham won by nine wickets at 4.40 pm on the second day. For the winners, the debutant Thackeray took 11 wickets in the match for 129 runs. There were 11 fours and 1 six and 5 fours respectively in Elliot's two innings of 69 and 60 not out. Adamson's 65 and Horsley's 63 both included 8 fours. In the Durham first innings, Adamson and Elliot added 134 for the second wicket and in the second innings for the same wicket they added an undefeated 106. For the losers, Skinner's 58 included 10 fours and Chambers's 57 and Anderson's 54 both contained 7 fours. In the Northumberland first innings, Gillespie and Skinner put on 66 for the seventh wicket. The 50 extras conceded in the two Northumberland innings were the most by a side during the season.
