Devon won this close match by one wicket on the second day. Needing 122 runs to win in their second innings, Devon lost their eighth wicket with 32 runs required and the ninth fell still 16 short. Davies and Aston saw Devon home amid reported scenes of tension and excitement. For the winners, Budden on his debut took 7 wickets for 58 runs in the Dorset second innings. For the losers, there were 3 fours in Crimmins's 52. He also took 5 wickets for 41 runs in the Devon second innings. It was reported that heavy overnight rain had made the wicket more difficult on the second day.
