Monmouthshire won this return match by 8 wickets at 3.30 pm on the second day. The match between the two teams at Oxford in July had been won by Oxfordshire. For the winners, Steeples took 10 wickets in the match for 120 runs, including 8 for 47 in the Oxfordshire first innings. Silverlock scored 83, Hudden 76 not out and E S Phillips 50 not out. In the Monmouthshire first innings, Hudden and Strattton added 98 runs for the seventh wicket. For the losers, Hartley scored 94 with 11 fours and Rogers 57 not out. In the Oxfordshire second innings, Davenport and Rogers added 51 runs for the ninth wicket. On the first day the visitors arrived late and play did not begin until 12.30 pm.
