For the home team, there were 11 fours in Barrett's 74, and 5 fours in Barker's 69 not out, scored in 4 hours and 20 minutes. In the Berkshire first innings, Barker and Barrett put on 136 runs for the sixth wicket. Peake and Barker added 64 runs for the eighth wicket. For the visitors, Sewell scored 77 with 9 fours, Crimmins 54 and Arundell 51. Sewell and Battrick put on 53 runs for the seventh wicket. The match became a contest for first innings lead, with Dorset failing by just 2 runs to gain the two points. In the Dorset innings, the ninth wicket fell with 12 runs needed for the lead, but after 10 were added Stacey was caught off a mishit off Barker who took 6 wickets for 91 runs in the innings.
