Cambridgeshire won this return match by two wickets with two minutes to spare at 5.58 pm on the second day, having been set a victory target in their second innings of 276 runs in 3¾ hours. Play on the first day ended half an hour early due to bad light. The match between the two teams at Poole at the beginning of the month had been won by Dorset. For the winners, Diver took 10 wickets in the match for 150 runs. Watts scored a match-winning 72. For the losers, Stacey took 11 wickets in the match for 120 runs, including 8 for 42 in the Cambridgeshire first innings. Greenhill's 85 not out was scored out of 103 in just 40 minutes and contained 1 six and 12 fours. In the Dorset second innings, he and Stacey added 57 runs for the last wicket. There were 5 fours in Crimmins's 62. With six wickets down in their second innings for 177 runs, a Cambridgeshire win seemed unlikely, but Watts and B W Pigg put on 63 runs for the seventh wicket. Match reports indicate that the winning runs were scored amid scenes of excitement with a snick for 4 by Coulson. Thomas kept wicket for Cambridgeshire in the Dorset second innings.
