Devon won this return match by 9 wickets at 5.20 pm on the second day. Bad light ended play early on the first day and rain prevented a start on the second day before 2.00 pm. The match between the two sides at Exeter in June had also been won by Devon. For the winners, there were 11 fours in Hooman's 97. Steeples strained his leg when bowling in the Devon first innings and left the field with the score at 177 for 4 wickets. He took no further part in the match. In the second innings Hooman and Sturt added 103 for the second wicket. In the Monmouthshire first innings, Silverlock's 42 included 4 fours.
