Match drawn with Northumberland winning on first innings. For the home side, there were 14 fours in Gilman's 89. In the Northumberland second innings, Ullathorne and G T Milne added 96 runs for the eighth wicket. For Durham, Coulson's 64 contained 9 fours, Bewick's 58 5 fours, and Morris's 53 not out 5 fours. In the Durham first innings, Bewick and Morris put on 110 runs for the tenth wicket. Brooks became ill overnight and could not play on the second day and T A Bulmer acted as substitute and held a catch to dismiss Marshall. In the Durham second innings, Coulson was hit on the head near the eye and fell to the floor. He had to retire as his wound required stitches. He was ready to bat if Durham had lost a further wicket. There were 5,000 spectators on the first day and 3,000 on the second.
