Staffordshire won this return match by an innings and 73 runs at 4.10 pm on the second day. When the two teams had met at Grantham in July the match had been drawn. For the winners, there were 10 fours, 3 threes and 10 twos in Fereday's 103, an innings of 2ΒΌ hours. Stratton scored 90 and Vost's 52 included 6 fours. In the Staffordshire innings, Stratton and Fereday added 116 runs for the third wicket, and Vost and Bucknell 50 for the seventh. For the losers, Thompson scored 57. Four thousand spectators were present on the first day.
