Suffolk won this closely fought match by 6 runs before lunch on the second day. The 6 run margin of victory was the closest of the season. The match was played on a sticky wicket resulting from the heavy rain in the days immediately preceding the match. Hertfordshire needed 121 runs to win in their second innings and scored 27 runs without loss on the late afternoon of the first day. Cowley looked to be taking his team to victory, but with the last man in 11 runs were still required. 4 runs were added, then Cowley hit out at Penfold, and Braddell is reported as having sprinted a full 30 yards to hold a 'wonder catch' and give Suffolk victory by 6 runs. For the losers White took 14 wickets in the match for 81 runs, including 8 for 40 in the Suffolk first innings.
