Cheshire needed 68 runs in their second innings to make Staffordshire bat again, and the last seven wickets fell for just 7 runs in 25 minutes, Bucknell taking 6 wickets for just 2 runs and for once over-shadowing Barnes. For the winners, there were 12 fours, 3 threes and 10 twos in Briggs's 101, an innings of 2½ hours. Morrice tip-scored for Cheshire with 32. Fallows hurt a toe while batting and did not field at the start of the Staffordshire innings and J Jones of Crewe Alexandra acted as his substitute.
