Norfolk won this return match by an innings and 67 runs shortly before 3.45 pm on the second day. When the two sides had met at Newmarket in July Cambridgeshire had been victorious. For the winners, Raikes took 11 wickets in the match for 172 runs, including 7 for 63 in the Cambridgeshire first innings. There were 11 fours, 6 threes and 2 twos in G A Stevens's 104, an innings of 2ΒΌ hours. Watson's 66 included 8 fours, and Beresford's 63 contained 9 fours. In the Norfolk innings, Watson and G A Stevens added 116 runs for the second wicket, and Stevens and Beresford 102 for the third. For Cambridgeshire, Reid scored 57 and Roberson 54 not out. This was the first Championship match played at the ground.
