Surrey 2nd XI won this return match by 98 runs shortly before 6.00 pm on the second day. The match between the two sides at The Oval the week before had been drawn. Devon were required to score in their second innings 239 runs in three hours to win the match. The match was set aside for the benefit of W F Light, who was unable to play due to illness. For the winners, there were 10 fours in Brooker's 72 and 6 fours in Rutty's 50. In the Devon first innings Platt took 7 wickets for 62 runs. For the home side, Ashford took 10 wickets in the math for 116 runs. Sturt scored 75 and Sturt and Garratt added 121 runs for the fifth wicket in the first innings.
