The match was drawn with Buckinghamshire winning on the first innings. In Monmouthshire's first innings there were 14 fours in Silverlock's 102 not out made in 3 hours and 10 fours in F G Phillips's 69. This pair added 138 for the sixth wicket in 80 minutes. In their second innings Silverlock reached 50 in 42 minutes, his 113 not out including 12 fours coming in 1 hour 50 minutes. He became the first batsman to score two centuries in a match against Buckinghamshire. He and Maltby put on 109 for the second wicket. For Buckinghamshire Wright's 56 included 4 fours and de Rothchild's 59 included 8 fours. 89 runs were added for the ninth wicket by W Wheeler and A de Rothchild. During the Buckinghamshire innings F G Phillips sprained an ankle and was unable to continue bowling. Broughton-Adderley was out first ball in his only match and was shortly to die in battle. It was noted that E H D Sewell scored - he was qualifying for Buckinghamshire.
