This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project - research is continuing on this scorecard which can be expected to change.
This low-scoring match was won by Staffordshire by 9 wickets on the second day. Rain had only permitted about three hours play on the first day. On his return to the side, Barnes took 11 wickets in the match for 85 runs, including 5 for 46 in Kent's first innings and 6 for 39 in their second. In Kent's first innings their first 4 wickets fell with the score at 20. For the losers, Jennings took 6 wickets for 24 runs in Staffordshire's first innings whilst Morfee's knock of 48 was the highest of the match. In their second innings, Kent's last 5 wickets fell for the addition of just 1 run. Interestingly, A P ("Tich") Freeman was not asked to bowl on his debut.
