| Biography: | A career soldier, he retired from the British Army in 1967 as a Colonel. He became military secretary (later defence secretary) to the government of Oman, and played a leading role in the bloodless coup d'etat in that country in July 1970. Awarded MC (1942), Croix de Guerre (1944), Pakistan Republic Medal (1956), OBE (1961), Order of Oman (1971), and KBE (1974). |
